The Board of Selectmen appointed the Public Works Building Committee at their January 17, 2023 meeting. The PWBC has been charged with the task of implementing and overseeing to completion the planning and construction of a new/renovated facility to replace and/or enhance the current facilities located at 360 Taunton Street. At the November 2023 Fall Town Meeting, it was voted to appropriate $1,600,000 for the purpose of funding the design of the Public Works/Land Use Building Facility.

Weston & Sampson provided a presentation that outlined the responsibilities of the Department of Public Works, outlined existing facility conditions, work completed to date and the benefits of a new facility.

In 2021, Weston and Sampson provided a Facility Needs Assessment and Feasibility Study for the Town.

The current facilities are  undersized and unable to efficiently support current operations. The lack of appropriate vehicle storage impacts response times during cold and inclement weather and contributes to the rapid deterioration of Town owned equipment. The mechanic bay and vehicle wash area space is inadequate to properly care and maintain the multi-million dollar fleet of vehicles.

Employee facilities are undersized and lack adequate office space, conference rooms, and storage areas.
